GEA Bids Farewell to Mr. Terence R. Darko- MD of Mechanical Lloyd Co. Ltd
The Ghana Employers’ Association has bid farewell to the Mr. Terence Darko (Managing Director of Mechanical Lloyd) who served as PRESIDENT of the Association for eight (8) consecutive years. During the 58th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of GEA, which was held on 4th October 2018 at the Kimpinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, a citation was presented to him, highlighting his sterling performance and contribution towards the growth and development of the Association. During his tenure as president, Mr. Darko contributed immensely to the relative peaceful industrial relations climate currently being experienced. He successfully led employers at the National Tripartite Committee in the National Daily Minimum Wage negotiations and created a cordial relationship between GEA and Government. At the international stage, the outgone president effectively represented the interest of Ghanaian employers at the International Labour Conference (ILC) organized annually by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
He also worked assiduously with members to procure a parcel of land to begin the construction of a four-story office complex at Ridge in Accra, which is near completion. His passion for the development of the private sector always motivated him to seized every opportunity to advocate for a reduction in the cost of borrowing in Ghana, which is making it difficult for employer to access loans to augment their businesses.
In his farewell address, the Former President thanked members for the opportunity given to him to lead the Association over the past years and wished for the progress and prosperity of GEA in the coming years. He appealed to all members to remain committed to the ideals and objectives of GEA by fully participating in all its activities to impress on Government and other relevant institutions to create a congenial business environment for employers.
