Director-General of ILO pays courtesy call on GEA
The Director-General (DG) of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo has paid courtesy call on GEA at its headquarters in North-Ridge, Accra. The courtesy call formed part of the DG’s three-day working visit to Ghana as part of efforts to enhance bilateral partnership between the ILO and Ghana, as well as Employers’ Organizations.
Mr. Houngbo was accompanied by Svenja Schulze, Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, and Hubertus Heil, Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of Germany.
According to Mr. Houngbo, the primary objective of his visit was to discuss key issues related to his vision for creating a Global Coalition for Social Justice as well as strengthening partnerships and cooperation with the Government of Ghana, GEA and Trades Union Congress.
At the meeting, the President of GEA, Mr. Dan Acheampong indicated that social dialogue was a panacea to sustainable industrial harmony, business expansion, investment attraction, productivity growth and decent job creation, and that Mr. Houngbo’s visit was critical for strengthening social dialogue in Ghana to achieve the decent work agenda.
Mr. Acheampong also took the opportunity to seek support from the ILO to undertake important activities for members of the Association such as the promotion of sustainable enterprises, the Elimination of Violence and Harassment at workplaces and Support for informal enterprises to leverage on the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
