Labour Minister Pays Courtesy Call on GEA Council
At its 329th statutory meeting, the Council of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) received a courtesy call from the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (MP). The meeting, held at the Employers’ House in North Ridge – Accra, marked a significant milestone in strengthening government–private sector relations to address Ghana’s persistent unemployment challenge.
In his remarks, the Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to working closely with employers to create sustainable job opportunities across the country. He emphasized the need for coordinated, innovative, and employer-driven solutions to tackle unemployment, calling on employers to actively contribute ideas that support decent work creation and inclusive economic growth.
A key highlight of the engagement was the Minister’s introduction of the 24-Hour Economy, a flagship initiative of the new administration aimed at unlocking business potential and boosting job creation through extended operational hours in strategic sectors. He extended an invitation to GEA and the broader business community to propose practical strategies for the initiative’s rollout, underscoring its potential to drive productivity, attract investment, and create a more dynamic labour market.
The GEA Council welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting enterprise development, contributing to national employment policies, and ensuring that private sector perspectives shape the country’s labour market transformation agenda. The Council also resolved to convene a special session with the government’s policy advisor on the 24-hour economy to explore viable business models and policy frameworks that could ensure its success.
This high-level interaction reflects GEA’s continued role as a key voice in shaping employment policies and advocating for private sector-led development in Ghana.
