Challenges of businesses and workers: GEA and TUC hold bipartite discussions
The Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana held a bipartite meeting to discuss the current macroeconomic challenges confronting both employers and workers in the country.
The meeting was attended by the leadership and representatives of GEA, Organized Labour, the Association of Ghana Industries, the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications.
Both the employers and workers caucus admitted that concealing information and not opening up on questions such as “what was happening and what was going to happen to the Ghanaian economy”, would have dire consequences for the country going forward. The meeting, therefore, agreed that it was time for all stakeholders to step up efforts and help provide lasting solutions to the government to tackle the ongoing macroeconomic imbalances in the country.
The main highlights of the meeting were:
- calls for the government to as a matter of urgency, streamline the operations of forex bureaus to manage the forex
- support the production and distribution of locally manufactured goods from the farm yards to the local market to reduce import pressures.
- the need for the president to address the nation on the measures his government was putting in place to address the challenges.
