The Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) on November 6, 2025, hosted a delegation from the Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA) at its Secretariat in North Ridge, Accra. The main objective of the meeting was to formally introduce GITA’s newly elected Executive Board and to explore areas of mutual interest and collaboration with the GEA.
The delegation comprised:

- Mr. Kojo Ampratwum – Vice President
- Mr. Danny Quaye – Secretary
- Mr. Jerome Selorm Deamesi – Financial Secretary
- Mr. Ohene Nana Ampem Kessie – Treasurer

During the meeting, discussions centered on deepening institutional collaboration between the two organizations to strengthen advocacy on key issues affecting the industrial trawler sub-sector. The engagement highlighted the need for a united employer voice to address industry challenges and promote sustainable growth within Ghana’s fishing sector.
Key issues raised included the need to advocate for improved access to financing for the acquisition of Ghanaian-owned trawler vessels, as well as to enhance skills transfer and capacity development in areas such as vessel manning and dry dock operations. Both parties acknowledged the strategic importance of the industrial trawler industry to Ghana’s blue economy and agreed on the necessity of joint interventions to support competitiveness, compliance with labour standards, and sustainable employment creation.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of GEA, Alex Frimpong, commended the new leadership of GITA for their proactive approach and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to working closely with sector-specific associations such as GITA to promote responsible business practices and decent work. He emphasized that GEA’s collaborative relationship with employer associations in the fishing sector forms a critical part of its broader mandate to advance private-sector growth and strengthen social dialogue across industries.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to institutionalize engagement between the two organizations through regular consultations and joint advocacy initiatives aimed at enhancing fair industry practices, skills development, enterprise sustainability, and labour-management cooperation in the fishing sector.
