IIA Ghana Pays Courtesy Call on GEA Governing Council to Strengthen Corporate Governance Collaboration
The Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana (IIA Ghana) paid a courtesy call on the Governing Council of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) on March 17, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen institutional collaboration and promote sound corporate governance practices across Ghana’s business landscape.
The delegation from IIA Ghana was led by its President, Mr. Ebenezer Omari Mireku, and included key members of its leadership, notably Mr. Eric Obodai, Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Brenda Mills-Pappoe, Council Member, and Mrs. Victoria Nipah, a member of the Advocacy Committee of Council.
The meeting explored opportunities for strategic collaboration, as well as the need to consider the evolving role of internal auditing beyond traditional compliance functions. The increasing importance of internal audit was highlighted during the discussions, including:
• strengthening enterprise risk management systems,
• enhancing corporate governance structures,
• supporting value creation, and
• providing strategic advisory support to management and boards.
The meeting also underscored the need for stronger collaboration between GEA and IIA Ghana to support enterprises in building robust governance systems. In particular, both parties identified several priority areas for joint action, including:
• structured engagements with senior executives on governance and risk oversight,
• capacity-building programmes for GEA members in corporate governance and board effectiveness,
• training on enterprise risk management and fraud risk mitigation,
• support for strengthening internal control systems, and
• knowledge-sharing on emerging risks, including digital and technology-related vulnerabilities.
• for joint research, policy dialogue, and participation in each other’s conferences and professional events
For GEA, this engagement aligns with our strategic priority of promoting responsible business practices and supporting our members to operate in line with national laws, international standards on transparency and accountability, and emerging governance expectations.
